Lady Eagles End Season in OT

by Mike Organ

After opening a huge lead, and then squandering it, the Lexington Lady Eagles’ Bailey Reynolds hit a three-point shot to give Lexington a 40 to 37 lead over Rosebud Lott, with less than 20 seconds remaining in the game. Rosebud Lott came down the court, fired up a three that missed, but the Lady Eagles were called for fouling the shooter. The shooter made all three shots to tie the game, again. Into overtime, we went.

In overtime, Lexington missed five free throws in a row, as the ‘mystery stripe’ continued to haunt them right up to the last game of the season. Lexington was a pitiful 4 of 15 from the free throw line. Just one more in regulation would have made it a .500 district record.

Mackenzie Brown sliced and drove her way to 17 points to lead the Lady Eagles in scoring. Christen Schneider was next with eight points.

Besides the free throw shooting problems, the Lady Eagles were just 17 of 55 for the night from the field, not counting free throws.

The Lady Eagles finish the district season with a 6-8 record and a very competitive fifth place finish, just a few free throws away from a playoff berth.
