Young Child’s Death Raises Questions
A three-year-old boy was found unresponsive as Giddings Police officers were summoned to meet EMS last Saturday afternoon at 773 W. Independence Street. According to the Giddings Police report, GPD was dispatched at 2:10 p.m. to meet B&M Ambulance at the location concerning a child who was not breathing.
Upon arrival, the officers observed medics attempting to revive three-year-old Dean Hodges, who was on the floor, and unresponsive.
Officers noted that they observed vomit on the floor and an open, partially empty, bottle of tequila near the child.
A resident of the address, 27 year old Auston Shawn Tatum, advised officers that he was currently the caretaker and guardian of Dean Hodges, as well as of Dean’s one-year-old sister, who was also at the residence at the time.
The three-year-old child was rushed to St. Mark’s Hospital in La Grange, where he was pronounced deceased.
An autopsy was performed Sunday morning at the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office. Their formal ruling, as to the cause and manner of death, is pending, until officers complete and release the results of their investigation.
