Softball Practice Starts

by Mike Organ

Coach Kristy Bradford started her first season as the Lady Eagle softball coach last Friday. Bradford expects to have 30 players out for the sport when basketball season ends.

Bradford is the fourth coach in three seasons for the Lady Eagles. Bradford comes to Lexington from Hitchcock where she was the girls coordinator. She guided Hitchcock to the playoffs last season. Bradford had been at Giddings prior to her stint on the coast. At Giddings, the girls went to the playoffs in seven of her 10 seasons there, reaching the regional finals in 2007. Bradford went to high school in Hitchcock. She attended Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma. In talking to some Hitchcock students, they were upset at losing their coach.

Bradford inherits a team that has been hit with injury before the season starts. Sophomore Kasey Smith has been lost for the season due to a knee injury. Smith started every game for the Lady Eagles last season as a freshman. Returning this season will be Kristen Boettcher, who missed last season with an injury. The Lady Eagles lost two players before the season started last year and one the year before.

The Lady Eagles will scrimmage Brenham in Brenham on February 9th.
