Lexington Middle School Basketball News

by Mark Strain

The Lexington Lady Middle School Eagles hosted the Academy Bees on Thursday, January 17th. As the season progresses, the level of play improves and such was the case this night. The B team tipped off first in a game that went back and forth and saw the Lady Eagles held scoreless. The Lady Bees scored 14 in the contest to win the match 14-0.

The second game of the night was the 7A teams. While the Lexington 7A Lady Eagles were able to put up a good effort, the Academy Lady Bees were able to pull out a second victory of the night, winning 25-20. Scoring for the Eagles was: #15 Kaity Washington with 8, # 42 Madison Iselt with 6, #35 Rayghan Stewart with 4 and 2 by #34 Keanna Clemons.

The final game of the night was the 8A game. The Lady Eagles showed a lot of spirit and had a good defensive game with some good steals, but the baskets just would not drop, and so for the third time in the night, the game went to the Lady Bees of Academy by a score of 22-6. Scoring for Lexington was 4 points by #25 Madison Stefek and 2 by #10 Clarissa Parker.

Last week the Giddings Middle School Lady Buffaloes hosted the Lexington Middle School Lady Eagles in a basketball tournament. This week, the Lady Eagles returned the favor by hosting their own tournament that included Giddings, Academy and Rosebud- Lott. The Lexington 7th grade team fell to Academy in their first game, but went on to defeat Rosebud-Lott in the consolation game to take a 3rd place finish. The 8th grade team also faced Academy in their first game and for the third time this year came up short 25-12. The loss sent the 8A Eagles to face the Giddings Buffaloes in the consolation bracket. In a very exciting game, the Lady Buffaloes claimed the victory 13-8.
