Texas Czech Genealogical Society Annual Meeting
This year’s Texas Czech Genealogical Society Annual Meeting will be held at the Caldwell Civic/Visitor Center in Caldwell, and will begin Friday evening, January 25, 2013, with a Wine and Cheese Reception beginning at 5:00 PM. The reception will honor Rev. Jan Dus and his wife, Anna, from Policka, Czech Republic. Jan, the featured speaker for the entire event, serves a small congregation about one hundred miles east of Prague. Rick Steves, in his article, Prague & The Czech Republic, paraphrased it this way, “Are you a genealogical freak or do you just want to know a bit about your ancestors? Are you searching for your ancestral home or would you just like to travel the unbeaten path? Rev. Jan Dus may just be the person to help you. Jan enjoys helping travelers connect with locals in small villages of eastern, southern and northern Bohemia and Moravia.”
At 6:00 PM, a dinner of sausage and sauerkraut, buttered potatoes, green beans, rolls, tea and pecan pie, catered by Slovacek’s of Snook, will be served. Around 6:30, Jan will take the stage speaking on: Siller’s Pamatnik and What We Learn About the First Czech Protestants in the USA.
Saturday morning, the day’s event will begin at 8:00 AM with registration and morning refreshments. Following the Opening Ceremonies at 9:00 AM, Jan will once again take the stage bringing a presentation entitled: Early History of Christians and Jews in the Czech Lands and Slovakia. Later that afternoon, Jan will speak on The Modern History of Christians and Jews in the Czech Lands and Slovakia. Additional speakers for the day include: Beverly Scott, Writing One’s Memoirs and How It Fits With Genealogy; Liz Carmack, Researching Outside Government Records; and, TCGS President, Charlene Hurta, will close the day’s program with, TCGS Digging For Gold in 2013.
