Just a Thought.......
However, I live in a house that makes me wonder.
You need to know that in my home are a number of antique clocks. One is from the mantle of my paternal grandmother, and I used to listen to it when I was a child. Another is from my maternal grandmother, and it would chime every time we arrived from Kansas for Thanksgiving. The third belonged to my great-great uncle, and stands taller than the other two.
What’s important is that all of them still work, each day, every day. They have been doing so now for more than fifty years.
Can any of our so-called-more progressive gadgets make that claim? If not, why not? Have we just given in to “planned obsolescence” in the name of profits? Probably so. And it is sad.
We work hard to get things which we know will not last. And then we complain about the bills, about the long hours of work, about products which are designed to wear out quickly.
Someone once said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, but treasures in heaven where moths and rust do not corrupt and thieves do not break in and steal.”
Something to think about before you make that next purchase.
