Eagles Clip Rosebud-Lott 59-48
Lexington knocked the petals off Rosebud-Lott Friday night with a 59- 48 win over the Cougars. Lexington battled a tough full court press by the Cougars all night. Jason Washington took advantage of the press, scoring 27 points on drives and short jump shots. He made 10 two-point baskets in the contest. London Jacob did a lot of scoring in the high traffic area near the basket with 17 points.
Lexington started quickly in the contest as Washington scored 11 points in the opening stanza. Eriq Mitchell added the other five points in the period. Washington and Mitchell both started their scoring with a long three-pointer. The Cougar defense guarded against the three, leaving the basket available for drives. Washington drove to the basket, making twisting, acrobatic lay ins the rest of the quarter and most of the night.
Jacob started showing his presence in the second quarter as he took an assist from Washington for a basket, and then grabbed a couple of rebounds for put backs. Washington got two more buckets to keep RL reeling and down 30-16 at halftime.
RL got their confidence at halftime, as they pressed even harder and won the quarter 16-11. The score was 41-32 with momentum on the Cougars’ side. Lexington had to recapture momentum to regain control of the game.
The fourth period saw just that. Lexington took command, widening the lead to 20 points at one time, with just under three minutes left in the game. The Eagles relaxed, but RL did not, keeping the pressure on, as they closed the lead to 11 just before the final buzzer.
Jacob and Zach Lay each collected six rebounds to lead the team.
The Eagle JV boys captured a rare victory with an exciting 26-24 win over Rosebud-Lott. Jai Cooper led the JV in scoring with 10 points.
