Superintendent’s Corner

Frances M. McArthur, PhD.,
Superintendent of Schools Lexington Independent School District

For several years I have been inviting our Lexington community to get involved andattendour school board meetings. I want to especially encourage our community to join us for our Regular January Board Meeting on Monday, January 28th at 7:00 pm, as our students and staff recognize our trustees in celebration of School Board Recognition Month.

As volunteers who serve children and represent their communities, individual school board members face many challenges. Those challenges have increased over the past few years, as the funding for education in the state of Texas has been drastically reduced.

Our Lexington trustees give up many hours of time with their families attending an average of two meetings a month. The time spent in meetings is only a small portion of the time they devote to their work. School board trustees are required to attend seminars and training sessions to stay up to date with the latest changes in state and federal regulations.

Additionally, I send them lengthy reports to prepare for our meetings. They do all of this without any compensation, other than the one they receive from our students’ success.

Please say thank you to our dedicated school board members .for their service and try to join us on Monday, January 28th as we let them know how much we appreciate all they do to help make Lexington the community every one wants to be at.
