Fayette County Country Music Club Monday

The Fayette County Country Music Club will host their monthly Opry on Monday, January 21, 2013 at the KC Hall in La Grange.

THE ELDERLY BROTHERS is a three part harmony group made up of Don George, Bill Spiegel and Del Kubena. DEL KUBENA is from the Lockhart area and has been playing music since the age of 14. He was the producer and MC of the Lockhart Opry for 15 years until its close in August of 2011. It began in 1995 when Del, Bill Spiegel and Gordon Sides put the show together and it was sponsored by the Lockhart Lions Club. Del’s love of music did not end with the close of the Opry; he still sings and plays at nursing homes in Lockhart, Gonzales, Luling, Schulenburg, Bastrop or anywhere else he is invited to perform. BILL SPIEGEL grew up at the time classical country and popular music was in its prime. He was born and raised in the small country town of Sharp, Texas. He loved to sing since he was a teenager and had to be content to sing with the radio or the old 78 records. He bought his first guitar in 1991 at a pawn shop for $65, and began teaching himself to play it. He has performed at all the area Oprys doing country music, but his first love of music has always been popular music like the crooners of his younger years. DON GEORGE has been involved in music performance almost all his life. He got his first violin at the age of 7 and his first guitar at 9. He has appeared on shows with Glen Campbell, T. Texas Tyler, Johnny Cash, Minnie Pearl and many other performers. He was a winner in the Horace Heidt Show competition. He led a Country Music Show for the Lockhart Breakfast Lions for over 23 years, was in charge of the Old Time Fiddlers Contest for a number of years, and was a band member of the Yoakum Opry, Lockhart Opry, and is presently playing for the Rotary Club’s Lone Star Opry in Giddings.

PRISCILLA SPEED - Music for Priscilla has always been a necessary part of her life. In the early to late 1990’s, she performed throughout south Texas with her brother, Bill York, and his band “The Fifth Wheel”.

She has been blessed to have recorded three albums, including some original music, as well as country and gospel cover songs. She has been on stage with Tommy Cash, Leona Williams, Carl Jackson, Moe Bandy, the late Johnny Lyon and other well known performers from Maine to Florida and Georgia to Texas.

Her greatest blessings are her husband of 51 years, three wonderful children and their spouses, six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Music is definitely a ministry in any venue and will always be a way for her to reach out to others.

SISTER SUE is comprised of sisters Kathy Helton Danielson and Janet Helton Havel, and Kathy’s daughter, Kelsey Helton Danielson. Originally from Alabama, this family has entertained all over the Southeast, including the Hank Williams Festival, Annual National Shrimp Festival and Mainstreet Days in Grapevine. Performing with their family band, the Heltons, these ladies grew up singing traditional country, gospel and rock-a-billy music. The oldest sister, Kathy, sings, plays the drums and rhythm guitar. Janet is known for her smooth rich vocals, and the youngest, Kelsey, is a graduate of NYU in New York with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Theatre, and adds just the right amount of spunk and fun to the group!
