Just a Thought.......

Rev. DaveFischer

These dark and cold days can lead to discouragement.

You have to track through the mud to feed the cattle, or, you may feel trapped inside your house.

And, even though it is the New Year, you can feel condemned to the same old, same old as resolutions are difficult to sustain, and others do not seem to want to help.

In the midst of this winter season, read a good word. The gospel of Mark says that Jesus was headed to Jerusalem. And, it declares that he clearly told his disciples that it would not be a picnic. He was going to be sacrificed and die.

In response, they asked Jesus to secure their places of distinction in the kingdom.

In modern terms, He must have thought, “Seriously, you want elevation when I am about to be humiliated? Give me a break!”

Life did not. Still, Jesus persevered, believing in His God and His mission more than the power of discouragement.

Yes, He still suffered. But in the end, He was rewarded for His goodness and His commitment.

Something to think about in these winter days when doubt and fear whistle at the window.
