Just a Thought.......

Rev. DaveFischer

Forgiveness, Purpose and Resolution were having coffee one day when the subject turned to the New Year.

Resolution’s face was bright as an LED light and it was obvious he was excited about the recent turn of the calendar.

“Best time of the year,” he said, “my time, the one time each year when almost everyone invokes my name!”

“That’s true,” said Purpose, “but, if I recall correctly, you’ve never made it very far into January without my assistance.”

Reluctantly, Resolution conceded the point. “Well, you have helped a little.”

“A little?” retorted Purpose. “I carry the load and you know it. If not for me, you are a faded memory by Valentine’s Day.”

“I can see both your points,” interjected Forgiveness, “but don’t

Forget I’m the one who makes the journey easier. I lighten the load folks have to carry. And, I make room for each of you.”

“What do you mean?” Purpose and Resolution responded almost in unison.

“I mean that I give you, Purpose, the energy to persevere and you,

Resolution, the reason to move on at all.”

“Now you’re bragging!” declared Resolution.

“Not bragging at all,” responded Forgiveness. “Just stating a fact.”

“I think he’s right,” said Purpose. “Lots of folks who try to walk with me drop by the wayside because they passed him over and tried to go on without him. Their new year became the same old, same old.”

“Okay,” grudged Resolution, “but it still all begins with me.”

Author’s note. I don’t know where it begins with each of you. I really believe that you can start the New Year with any of our three friends above. But, none of us can complete it well if we leave behind any of them. It’s just a thought .
