M. J. Alford
M.J. Alford was born May 17, 1923 in the Black Jack Community to Elmer and Inez (Luckey) Alford. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On November 30, 1945, he and Bertie Mae Robinson were married in San Antonio. M.J. had lived in Forest Grove the past 42 years moving from Austin. He had worked as a truck driver for Travis Roofing for 20 years. He was a member of Forest Grove Christian Church. M.J. loved to dance, dancing every Friday. He enjoyed hunting with dogs and was an avid 42 player, even as a child.
M.J. passed away Thursday, December 6th, at his home in Forest Grove, reaching the ageof 89. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bertie Mae on February 22, 1995; a brother, Bill Alford and two sisters, Louise Holman and Aline Gattis.
Surviving are: son, Monte Alford and wife Mary of Rockdale; daughter, Sandy O’Brien and husband Richard of Rockdale; sister, Ruth Ethrington of Austin; four grandchildren: David O’Brien of Rockdale, Terry Cross and husband Jeremy of Georgetown, Travis Alford and wife Andrea of Taylor, Brandon Alford and wife Kim of Pflugerville; seven greatgrandchildren: Taylor O’Brien, Logan O’Brien, Colton Cross, Caleb Cross, Vadim, Makinze Alford and Ava Alford.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2012 at Forest Grove Christian Church. Burial followed in the Forest Grove Cemetery. Rev. Lance Walch will officiated.
