Lopez Surprised by Judge’s Sentencing

Former Lexington Middle School teacher and Pflugerville resident, Holly Lopez, age 32, was sentenced to four years in the state jail facility last Friday, December 7, in the 390th District Court of Travis County.

Lopez pled guilty to two charges of indecency with a child regarding her having sex with two 8th grade students last February.

As a condition of her plea, Lopez expected the Judge to sentence her to six months in jail, followed by ten years probation. However, District Judge Julie Kocurek thought differently. She sentenced Lopez to four years for each offense, to be served consecutively. Lopez will be eligible for parole in two years. She will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of her life and she had to surrender her teaching certificate.

LISD Police Chief David Mohr said, “I’m glad we didn’t have to get any of the kids on the stand. The District Attorney, Texas Ranger Berena, and Detective Mirabelle with Pflugerville PD did a super job!”
