Eagles’ Season Ends at the Regional Semi-Finals
The Lexington Eagles made it deep into the playoffs again this year, proving what hard work, determination and a team mind-set can do. The Eagles lost in the Regional Semi’s game against Refugio last Friday night, the third time the two teams have met in the playoffs in as many years.
The Leader’s sports writer and “Voice of the Eagles” Mike Organ writes in this week’s paper that the two teams were well matched and played on an even field until “…came the play that changed the game and tilted momentum to Refugio.”
Organ said the Eagles tried to run a play that included a lateral pass by quarterback Kogan Garrett to one of his offensive backs. “The ball never got to the back, and players started trying to cover the football. Lexington coaches knew it was an incomplete pass. The officials ruled otherwise, ruling the play was a fumble and that Refugio recovered the ball.”
He continued, “As it turned out, that was the beginning of the end for Lexington.”
Regardless of the disappointment, the Eagle fans remain proud of their performance, year after year, and in particular, the character with which they play the game and represent the City of Lexington.
