Just a Thought.......

Rev. DaveFischer Rev. DaveFischer My mother’s favorite hymn was “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”. As a child I can remember her singing it on the way to my grandmother’s house. Later, as I began my ministry, I sang it in church and remembered her voice.

I refer to it now because the seasons have changed. The heat of summer has been replaced by fall coolness, and northern winds remind us that winter will soon be upon us.

We make much of the weather. It is probably the primary topic of any beginning conversation. But, does anyone comment, “Aren’t you glad that God made plans for every season? Even winter is good because it rests the earth and allows it to prepare for Spring.”

Of course, seasons are not all that God does, behind the scenes, to care for us.

Many of us have had the experience of being blessed by a word from someone else. When we hear it, we recall their mother, or father, or grandmother, who taught them to be encouraging and even gave them the words to do so.

God was taking care of us, through others, long before we had the need of that moment.

You may wish to add your own examples to this column. God is faithful, in season and out, and because of His faithfulness, we are blessed.

Surely that is why, so many years ago, the President himself said, “Let us set aside a day to be thankful.”
