Thanksgiving Day Propane Scare
A potential hazardous waste scare was avoided on Thanksgiving evening, following the rollover wreck of a truck towing a large propane tank. The 2012 Mack truck was being driven by John Morris Rogers from Corpus Christi on Thursday, November 22, at about 7:35 p.m. He had just passed through Lexington on Highway 77, going northbound in the outside lane, when he approached a left curve on the highway. As Rogers entered the curve, he exited the right side of the highway and overcorrected to the left. That’s when he lost control of both his truck and the trailer/tank in tow. Both units rolled on their right sides and became disconnected. The Mack truck came to a final rest on the west shoulder of Highway 77 and the tank came to rest in the east bar ditch of the highway.
DPS Trooper Ordie Manner investigated the accident, staying at the scene for more than six hours, ensuring the safety of everyone in the area and making sure that no hazardous waste escaped the propane tank.
The truck and tank were towed to McCoy’s Storage in Rockdale. Rogers was not injured in the accident.
