Donald Arthur Schuhmann

April 12, 1934 - November 13, 2012

Donald Arthur Schuhmann was born onApril 12, 1934 in Giddings, Texas to Edwin Arthur & Carolina Mathilde (Neitsch) Schuhmann. He was baptized on April 29, 1934 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. G.W. Fischer and confirmed on March 30, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. Max Studtmann. His confirmation verse was Psalm 145:18-19, “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.” Don graduated from Giddings High School and received his degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown.

Don was a retired salesman, but considered his volunteer work in the church and the community his true calling in life. He was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dallas where he sang in the choir. At Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings, Don served as an Elder and was an active member of many boards and groups. He was a devoted leader in the Boy Scout program and had served as a Scoutmaster and a District Commissioner. He had received the Silver Beaver Award for his support of the program. Don’s greatest hobby was volunteering for civic causes, which included being a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League, the Lee County Historical Society, the Wendish Heritage Society and the Lee County Senior Citizens Center. Don was also an avid member of the Republican Party and had served with the Texas State Delegation. He passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Christopher House in Austin.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ed & Carrie Schuhmann; his son, J. Kenneth Schuhmann and his brother, Lloyd Schuhmann.

He is survived by his two sons, Stephen Schuhmann & his wife, Stacy of Cedar Park, Tx and Stuart Schuhmann of Paris, Tx; four grandchildren, Christopher James Schuhmann, Jessica Marie Schuhmann, Lauren Mechelle Schuhmann and Zachary Arthur Schuhmann all of Cedar Park, as well as many extended family members and friends.

Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Boy Scout Troop 143, 300 North Grimes, Giddings, Texas 78942.
