Annie Marie Mitschke

September 19, 1929 - November 5, 2012

Annie Marie (Winter) Mitschke was born on September 19, 1929 in Giddings, Texas to Louis D. & Minnie T. (Rost) Winter. She was baptized on October 22, 1929 by Rev. William Mueller and confirmed on April 11, 1943 by Rev. Walter Tillman at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings. She graduated from Giddings High School in May of 1947 and was united in marriage to Arthur “Sonny” Mitschke on September 5, 1948 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. S.T. Schroeder. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Linda & Larry. Marie was employed with the Lee County Tax Assessor/Collector’s Office from 1966 until 1970 and retired from the Texas Department of Agriculture in 1992 where she had been a secretary at the Giddings Seed Lab. Marie was an active member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings where she had been vicepresident of the “Women of the Church” Group during the 1960’s. She was also active in the Meals on Wheels Program with her husband, and volunteered with Rejuvenation. She was an avid Longhorn fan, enjoyed watching sports, quilting, gardening, cooking and spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

She was peacefully called home to our Lord and Savior the morning of November 5, 2012 at her home in Giddings, Texas following a 10 year battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lorene Winter.

Marie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Arthur “Sonny” Mitschke of Giddings; daughter and son-in-law, Linda & Ralph Mutscher of Giddings; son and daughter-in-law, Larry & June Mitschke of Spring; four grandchildren, Jeff & Brandi Mutscher of Giddings, Travis & Laurie Mutscher of Round Rock, Ty Mitschke of Houston and Erica Mitschke of Spring; four great grandchildren, Mikayla Mutscher & Landry Mutscher of Giddings and Austin Mutscher and Jackson Mutscher of Round Rock; sister and brother-in-law, Mamie & Elmer Haydon of Austin; sisters-in-law, Joyce “Mickey” Mitschke & her husband, Marvin of Giddings, Rose Davenport of Round Rock and Ella Schaeffer & her husband, E.B. of Austin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Edwin Schwanke and Rev. Jeremy Walloch officiating. Burial followed in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Jeff Mutscher, Travis Mutscher, Ty Mitschke, Mike Ripple, Mike Lee and Lynn Eichler. Honorary pallbearers were Marie’s caregivers, Linda Miller, Patricia Bradshaw, Debra Key, Clarice Green and Emma Vaclavik.
