Lexington and the Anderson-Shiro Lady Owls staged a great volleyball match Thursday at Bryan Rudder High School. Lexington won the match in four games 25-19, 18-25, 25-23, and 25-17.The two teams battled point for point after some point runs in the first game.

Game 1-This game started off with Lexington fans wondering if we should be there. AS got out to a 5-0 lead before Lexington could get a point. From that point Madison Bexley served 10 straight points as the Lady Eagles zipped into an 11-5 lead. From that point on Lexington kept at least a five-point lead throughout the rest of the match. In this first game, Lexington big slammers were supplanted by kills from Kristen Boettcher, Meghann Wrinkle, and a dink kill by Karsen Ross. AS also helped the Lexington cause by serving long, or into the net, four times.

Game 2- This game was a tightly fought affair until the score was 14- 14. AS had three straight kills, Lexington had a wide kill shot, and a shank. The Lady Owls moved out to a 14-19 lead that the Lady Eagles were unable to overcome. The Lady Owls showed their offensive side with unofficially 12 kills in the game. Three more service errors by AS and Johna Alford got four kills, as the Lady Eagles began to get into their game.

Game 3- This game was a monumental game as the two teams battled evenly all the way. The way this game was played, you felt whomever won the game would probably win game 4. AS got out to a 0-3 lead but Lexington eventually pulled even at ‘lucky 13’; with a Ross dink kill. Lexington got kills form Aleece Moerbe, as she dropped three points on AS and another from Boettcher. Alford reeled off three kills in a row to move Lexington out to a 21-20 lead. AS was called for a lift, making the score 23-all. Wrinkle just touched one slightly over the net that AS could not fish out, making it 24-23. AS then had a hitting error on the next point, as the ball flew past the end line, for a Lexington 25-23 win.

Game 4-This game was anything but anti climatic. Again, the two teams battled evenly until the score reached 12-9. A Ross kill, a Karley Wren kill, a long hit, and before you could blink your eyes, Lexington had a 20-13 lead. Alford had a kill, AS was fined a point for a substitution error, and some AS errors put the score at 24-17. Fittingly, AS served into the net for the final Lexington point, as the Lady Eagles advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals.

Lexington will have played Centerville in Franklin by the time you read this. Hopefully, there will be more volleyball coverage next week.

Stats for the Area Champions were: Johna Alford- 12 kills, 1 assist, 11 digs, 5 blocks,1ace; Kristen Boettcher- 2 kills, 3 digs; Madi Bexley- 19 digs; Karsen Ross- 6 kills, 23 assists, 9 digs; Karley Wren- 8 kills, 18 digs; Aleece Moerbe- 4 kills, 1 assist, 12 digs, 2 blocks, 1 ace; and Meghann Wrinkle- 3 kills, 11 digs, 1 block.
