The Giddings ISD School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) is hosting a Walk to Cure Diabetes on November 15th, 2012. Statistics show almost everyone in Texas either has diabetes or knows someone suffering from this deadly disease. It is estimated that 18.8 million children and adults have been diagnosed with diabetes, and 7.0 million are un-diagnosed diabetics. All proceeds raised to support our walk will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Our goal of the Diabetes Walk is to bring people together in a healthy activity for a worthy cause. Participation shows your commitment to conquer diabetes one step at a time. This event will be held at the GHS Stadium from 6-8pm on Thursday, November 15, 2012. People of all ages are invited to come out and walk as much as they would like. There is no set amount of laps that a person must do in order to participate.
We are planning to offer tables for local businesses to share information with participants in the walk. These tables will be available for businesses to provide information about Types 1 and 2 diabetes, as well as other health directed information.
As valued members of our community, we invite local businesses to participate in our community wide goal of raising diabetes awareness.
For more information about how to participate, please contact Sarah Davis at 716-7625 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
