Lady Eagles Sweep Jarrell
The Lexington Lady Eagles capped their district championship season with an exciting threegame sweep of second place Jarrell Tuesday night. All three games were close and the two teams battled tirelessly, with Lexington coming out slightly ahead in all three games.
Game 1- Lexington came out a little sluggish to start the game. Jarrell got several blocks on Lexington kill attempts. The Lady Eagles were, at times, indecisive in who was going to start the volley return. After being down two points, the Lady Eagles pulled into a tie at 20. From there, things went Lexington’s way.
Game 2- Once again the two teams battled, with Lexington having a slight advantage most of the game. Jarrell pulled even at 22 and the teams started winning one point at a time. Lexington led 23- 22, then Jarrell tied at 23, Lexington moved up to 24-23, Jarrell tied again at 24. A bad Jarrell serve put the Lady Eagles up 25-24. On the final point, Lady Eagle Johna Alford authored a kill that ended the game 26-24.
Game 3-This again was a very competitive game with Jarrell taking a three-point lead at 11-8, before the Lady Eagles rallied back. After Lexington got even, neither team could muster more than a twopoint lead. Karley Wren dinked a kill over the Jarrell blockers to give Lexington a 24-22 lead. Jarrell stuffed a Lexington kill attempt to move to 24-23. The Jarrell server then hit the ball into the net for the 25th Lexington point and the three game win.
Lexington ends the regular season with a record of 26-5, going 13-1 in district play. Said Coach Amanda Player, “It was a good night to end our regular season games on, because all 3 teams had a sweep! It was especially great for our Varsity, because Jarrell was our only district loss.”
Player continued, “We are all extremely excited about the opportunity to compete in the playoffs and make volleyball season last a little bit longer! Our girls have been working hard since August to get to this point, and we are ready for this next challenge. Playoffs always add a different level of pressure, so we will be doing our best to prepare for that! I know that everyone is proud of our volleyball team, and we are looking forward to representing our school in the playoffs.”
The Lady Eagle Freshmen won in two games 25-18 and 25-20.
