Josie Flippo


Funeral services for Josie Flippo, 78 of Giddings, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Tim Pitts officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday, October 26, 2012 from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Flippo passed away during the early morning hours of Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Country Care Plex in Giddings.

Vera Josephine “Josie” Spruill Flippo was born on August 6, 1934 in Caldwell, Texas to Theron Phillip Spruill Sr. & Bessie Mae (Wise) Spruill. Josie attended school in Giddings and was united in marriage to A.C. Flippo on February 2, 1957 in Giddings. They were married for 55 years when he preceded her in death on September 3, 2012. She was a loving and devoted homemaker who also was a childcare provider in her home for many years. Josie enjoyed traveling and was a huge Texas Longhorn football fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, T.P. Spruill Sr. & Bessie Mertink; her husband, A.C. Flippo; son, Dennis Fletcher; daughter-in-law, Linda Flippo; brother, T.P. Spruill Jr. and a sister, Martha York.

Josie is survived by her children, Kenneth & Irene Fletcher of Arlington, Debbie & Ralph Domel of Schertz, Mary & Doug Jatzlau of Giddings, Wanda Mertink of Giddings, Jerry Flippo of Giddings and Terry & Beatrice Flippo of Smithville; her grandchildren, Adam Domel of Austin, Jason Domel of Stafford, Kris Bailey of Giddings, Kari Jatzlau of Giddings, Matt Mertink of Nebraska, Luke Mertink of Paige, Juanita Posas of Giddings, Melinda Basquez of Giddings, Jeri Lyn Flippo of Giddings, Melissa Lehmann of Giddings, Victoria Snyder of Smithville, Brandon Flippo of Wichita Falls and Rebecca Flippo of San Marcos; fifteen great grandchildren and two sisters-inlaw, Rose Marie Spruill of Austin and Dorothy Hall of Ohio. Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Domel, Jason Domel, Anthony Basquez, Luke Mertink, Matt Mertink and Manuel Rios. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Flippo and Shaun Jatzlau.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of one’s choice.
