Coral Snake Snacks on Copperhead

Donald Boriack of Moab was out jogging on Saturday morning, October 13, when he came upon a most unusual sight! He witnessed a huge coral snake with 28 yellow stripes eating a copperhead! Donald said, “The coral snake had the copperhead’s head in his mouth and looked like he was attempting to swallow the copperhead. I ran back to the house to get my camera, but my dog beat me back and had separated the two. The dog continued to harass the coral snake (see picture at the right), but the copperhead was dead on the trail (see below). I assume it was killed by the coral snake!”

Donald said the coral snake escaped into the woods and his dog had to find a new playmate.
