Lady Eagles Flatten Florence

by Mike Organ

The #9 ranked Lady Eagle volleyball team did not have an open date Friday but it was close to having one. The Lady Eagles beat Florence 25-16, 25-16, and 25- 4. The blowout victory kept Lexington in first place alone with a tough week ahead as they host third place Rogers on Tuesday at 5:00 and Academy on Saturday at 1:00 pm.

The kill numbers were down but the service aces were up as the Lady Buffs just failed to return serve. Johna Alford led the team with 8 kills, with Karley Wren and Aleece Moerbe right behind with 6 and 5 respectively. The big number was Alford’s 8 service aces. Wren and Moerbe had 2 aces each. The dig numbers were down also because of fewer balls being sent to the Lexington side of the court.

This was a total sweep for the Lady Eagles. The Freshmen won in two games 25-14,25-17. The JV won their match in 3 games 21-25, 25-18, and 25-13.

Here are the team stats for the varsity match. The Lady Eagles are now 21-5 for the season: Johna Alford- 8 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig, 2 blocks, 8 aces; Brittany Nickel- 1 kill; Kristen Boettcher- 1 kill; Madi Bexley- 6 digs; Karsen Ross- 1 kill, 17 assists, 1 block; Karley Wren- 6 kills, 4 digs, 1 block, 2 aces; Aleece Moerbe- 5 kills, 1 assist, 7 digs, 1 block, 2 aces; and Meghann Wrinkle- 1 assist, 3 digs.
