Community Volunteers Are Needed
Learn more about federal taxes and help others in your community
Last year more than 88,000 Americans gave back to their communities as volunteers that provided free tax services through the IRS’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Programs.
Combined Community Action, Inc. in Giddings and Workforce Solutions, Rural Capital Area in Bastrop are interested in taking time to learn about taxes and then helping others by preparing federal income tax returns for free. Volunteers are trained and certified to prepare simple tax returns for people whose incomes are $50,000 or less. People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to volunteer.
A volunteer orientation will be held on November 13, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Central Office of Combined Community Action, 165 W. Austin St. in Giddings. Training for volunteers will be held on January 8-9, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the same location. Once certified, volunteers may spend as little as three to four hours per week volunteering between the end of January and the middle of April.
Each year millions of people receive assistance through these programs. If you are interested, please contact Kelly Franke at CCA by calling 979/540-2980. More information about the IRS volunteer tax preparation programs is available at www.IRS.gov, keywords Tax Volunteer.
