Robert “Bob” Allen Whitesides

November 17, 1942 - October 2, 2012

Robert “Bob” Allen Whitesides was born on November 17, 1942 to Allen & Zell (Cowley) Whitesides in San Rafael, California. Bob attended Hillcrest High School in Dallas, Texas graduating in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army as a member of the Combat Engineers during the Vietnam War from 1966 until 1968. Bob then graduated from the University of North Texas in 1971 with a Bachelors Degree in Business. He married Charlotte Ramsel on December 21, 1966 in Houston, Texas. Bob was the previous owner of Tejas Trading Post in Giddings for 19 years. In his retirement he enjoyed cowboy action shooting and was known as Tejas Bob to his friends at Travis County Regulators and Plum Creek Shooting Society. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and traveling.

Bob passed away the afternoon of Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Seton Medical Center in Austin following a sudden illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen & Zell Whitesides and a brother, Mike Whitesides.

Bob is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Giddings; four daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha & Mike Mayo of Richardson, Barbara & Bill Lindbergh of Lincoln, Debbie & John Neff of Florence and Jennifer & Rick Green of Tyler; grandchildren, Amanda & Phillip Lindbergh of Lincoln and Sarah, Bradley & Josh Green of Tyler and in-laws, Charles & Modena Ramsel of Giddings.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 5, 2012 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Ron Clark officiating. Military Honors were provided by the Giddings American Legion Post 276.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Richard Mangrum, Amanda Lindbergh, Phillip Lindbergh, Sarah Green, Bradley Green and Josh Green.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Rifle Association (NRA), P.O. Box 420648, Palm Coast, FL 32142-0648 in honor of Bob.
