Just a Thought.......

Rev. DaveFischer Rev. DaveFischer I have discovered a new author/friend, Marilyn Robinson. She has some very interesting things to say. Recently, I read these startling words of hers about prayer:

“She knew that was not an honest prayer, and she did not linger over it. The right prayer would have been, ‘Lord, I am miserable and bitter at heart, and old fears are rising up in me so that everything I do makes it worse.”

Ouch! What a bitter truth! And yet, what an honest prayer.

There are days when what we are thinking and feeling are not praise and thankfulness, but bitterness and strife.

If we are unfortunate, someone has taught us to pray only in a positive fashion for fear of offending God by seeming ungrateful.

But, if we are blessed, someone taught us to pray like the title of the old hymn, “Just As I Am”. We have been encouraged to bring it all before the Lord, trusting that He understands and will work with us to make it better.

Something to think about the next time we bow our heads or drop to our knees.
