by Mike Organ

Lexington defeated Salado Friday night to take sole possession of first place in District 22-2A. Lexington was never seriously challenged in the much anticipated match up. Lexington won in three games 25-14, 25-14, 25-18. Johna Alford had her usual outstanding game with 14 kills. Karley Wren stepped up with 9 kills. Aleece Moerbe had five smackers. Karsen Ross had an excellent game, setting her mates up for 28 kills with great sets. Also, offensively, Lexington had 12 service aces in the match. Meghann Wrinkle and Wren had three each, with Alford and Ross serving two each.

Defensively, Madison Bexley had 10 digs of Salado scoring tries. Moerbe and Wrinkle had a nice night, with nine each.

Coach Amanda Player said, “We played a great game against Salado and have finally separated ourselves by taking the lead in district. We only have 2 more games left in the first round of district: against Rosebud-Lott and Jarrell. Continuing to work hard in practice is not an option for us. Once the 2nd round of district starts, everyone always gets better. We have to keep working hard enough to stay a step ahead of everyone else.”

The Freshmen lost to Salado in two games 14-25, 17-25. The JV lost in two games 8-25, 17-25 in their match with Salado.

These are the Varsity statistics against Salado: Johna Alford- 14 kills, 4 digs, 2 blocks, 2 aces; Madeline Morton- 3 kills, 2 digs, 1 block; Brittany Nickel- 2 assists; Kristen Boettcher- 1 dig; Madi Bexley- 10 digs, 1 ace; Karsen Ross- 3 kills, 28 assists, 1 dig, 1 block, 2 aces; Chelsea Nadeau- 1 dig; Karley Wren- 9 kills, 15 digs, 3 aces; Aleece Moerbe- 5 kills, 1 assist, 9 digs, 1 ace; and Meghann Wrinkle- 1 kill, 8 digs, 3 aces.
