Eagles to Jarrell to Open District

by Mike Organ

The Lexington Eagles will travel to Jarrell Friday night to open district 14-2A-DII play. Lexington is 2-2 for the season, and Jarrell is 0-4 for 2012. The Cougars have lost to Holland 48-29, Valley Mills 31-25, Thrall 42-27, and Academy 44-13. Jarrell has not made the playoffs since 2006 and will not make them this season either.

The Cougars are minus several players from 2011, all of whom decided to concentrate on baseball. Their top quarterback and top receivers from last year are going to be college baseball players. Some other potential players followed the lead of the baseball players.

Jarrell has their third new coach in three seasons. They will operate from the spread formation, throwing the ball around the stadium. The scores indicate they can score. Most of their scores have come from passing plays, which is a weakness for the Eagles.

Lexington is glad to be playing a school their size, since the nondistrict schedule has been quite taxing. The Eagles have learned a lot from their demanding predistrict opponents.
