Lexington Garden Club News

By Nita Levy

On September 13, a trip to Bloomers Nursery in Elgin was enjoyed by 18 members and two guests of the Lexington Garden Club. The guests were Cynthia Raney and Gloria Matthews.

Marcus Young, owner of Bloomers, showed us a unique way to plant a strawberry container. He used violas, chives, marjoram, salad burnet, sorrel, and parsley, all edible herbs and flowers. He recommended various natural fertilizers to use on this arrangement.

While shopping, members enjoyed an array of plants with butterflies and bumble bees fluttering around. Not only that, we enjoyed a much welcomed shower of rain that watered plants and cooled everyone off.

Following the visit to Bloomers, the group enjoyed a luncheon at the Elgin City Café.

The next meeting of the Lexington Garden Club will be at Sharon Murphy’s home in Lexington. It will be held on Thursday, October 11, at 2 p.m.
