Just a Thought.......
Like the people. At our most recent gathering, we came from worship where a beautiful little girl had just been blessed and dedicated by her parents. Many of their friends, who also had young children, came to support them, as did their relatives.
As a result, the floor of our fellowship hall was changed into a nursery crawl space and the back area became a ping-pong challenge. In between were mothers and grandmothers, aunts, uncles and cousins hugging, holding and cajoling the young.
And suddenly, I appreciated Lexington once again. Too many children grow up apart from those who ought to know and love them best. Grandparents are a phone call, aunts and uncles are a card, and cousins become Christmas only.
As a result, a deep richness of life, its connections of love, is diminshed, or lost altogether.
I know, young folks go off to make their own life, but many come back after a while because they discover they have left the best of life behind, their extended family.
Something to think about the next time the lights of the big city seem to shine brighter than the stars above Lexington.
