James Allen Helmer
James Allen Helmer was born on March 9, 1947 in Brenham, Texas to Clarence & Julie (Graeter) Helmer. He served in the U.S.Army during the Vietnam War and received his Honorable Discharge on July 30, 1970. James was a retired brick layer’s helper and had been employed by Helmuth Droemer Construction and Milton “Chicken” Fischer. He enjoyed fishing, collecting coins and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence & Julie Helmer; three brothers, Charles Helmer, Billy Joe Helmer and Jerry Wayne Helmer, and a niece, Cindy Goerlitz.
James is survived by his sister, Shirley & Harley Goerlitz of Giddings; two brothers, J.C. & Dorothy Helmer of Giddings and William & Becky Helmer of Spring; sister-in-law, Judy Helmer of Spring; close friends, Kervin Reuther of Giddings and Lois Taylor of Giddings, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Giddings City Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Walloch of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Giddings officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Giddings American Legion Post 276. Entombment will immediately follow in the Giddings City Mausoleum.
Mr. Helmer passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the V.A. Hospital in Temple, Texas.
