Meals on Wheels Needs Our Help

Combined Community Action provides hot noon meals, 5 days a week to senior citizens over 60 years of age. This segment of our population is growing every day. With aging comes unique challenges; challenges that require programs and organizations to assist with needs such as health, food, and companionship.

Meals are served at one congregate site in Giddings. They also provide “MEALS ON WHEELS” to those individuals who are homebound and are in need of a nutritious meal. The Nutrition program prepares and delivers an average of 600 meals a month in Lee County. More than 20 volunteers assist with the program throughout the year. These services in Lee County alone amount to a staggering cost of $48,000 a year.

Unfortunately, the expenses of this program have far outpaced the donations received from local businesses and individuals, causing funds to be pulled from the total organization’s budget, headquartered in Giddings, to support Fayette’s nutrition program. Donations received to date, have totaled $2,100 from the community. Staffing cuts have already been made to reduce expenses, but without more financial support, Combined Community Action may be forced to cut services to those who need it most.

If your group or organization would like to participate in this campaign by sponsoring a Senior, contact Kelly Franke at 979-540- 2980 or KJFranke@CCAction.com and we will get you started. Personal donations can be sent to Combined Community Action, 165 W. Austin Street, Giddings, 78942. Please include Meals on Wheels - Lee in the memo line - So No Senior Goes Hungry.
