Eagles Host Cameron

by Mike Organ

Lexington will host the #2 ranked Cameron Yoemen in the second game of the 2012 season. Cameron comes into the contest, after coming from behind twice in their battle against Waco Connally, who the Yoe topped 35- 34. The Yoe are picked to win District 13-2A Division I. Lago Vista and Salado are picked to challenge the Yoe for the title.

Cameron got the high ranking due to eight returning starters on both offense and defense from a 6-5 playoff team of 2011. The offense is led by quarterback Jason Kopriva. Kopriva passed for 220 yards and three touchdowns, all to Colton Shelton. The running game may be suspect, since the Yoe had 238 yards total offense in the opening contest.

The Yoe defense is supposed to be the strength of the team, but Connally managed 456 yards against the highly regarded group. The defense is led by 6’3”, 266 lb. Edgar Luna. Luna lines up at nose guard. Eagle center, Jacob Warner, and he will be well acquainted before the night is over. Eagle Coach Jason Holcomb says the entire Yoe defensive front is good.

“The linebackers are very active and hustle to the ball. Cameron is well coached, as always, and will be a very good test for us,” Holcomb said.

Game time is 7:30 at Eagle Field. You might come early, since this should be one of the premier games in Central Texas.
