Last week at our August 27th Board Meeting, our trustees adopted our budget for the 2012-2013 school year. The process of developing the budget and preparing it for adoption spans approximately nine months and requires many work sessions both with staff, and with the Board of Trustees. In view of the revenue constraints faced by Texas school districts in the current climate, I was thrilled that we were able to add an Emergency Medical Training (EMT) class, graphic design class, and marketing class to our high school course offerings, as well as provide a modest 2% raise to our staff this school year.
The press box arrived just in time for Friday night’s game against Crockett. After experiencing some unanticipated delays, the contractor did not deliver the newly-constructed press box until midnight last Thursday. Fortunately, despite the the timing hiccups, the workmanship of the job is outstanding, and the new press box will provide a great value to Lexington ISD for years to come. Allen Retzlaff and his staff did a phenomenal job getting the electrical systems up and running, while Curtis Patschke connected the time clock and temporary speakers. A huge thanks to Allen, Curtis, and all others involved for their quick work.
A special thank you also goes out to our custodial staff, who did a great job throughout the summer. With a staff that is oneperson smaller than two years ago, the custodial team undertook a deep clean of the facilities, polishing and shining the furniture, floors and everything in between. I was so proud to welcome our students on the first day of school to schools that have never looked cleaner.
