Just a Thought.......

Rev. DaveFischer Rev. DaveFischer I know, I know, being the preacher, I am supposed to bring the Word to Lexington.

However, as the summer wears on and the drought intensifies, I find that I am the one who is learning the Word from you. Particularly the Word on Faith and Endurance.

As you know, both of those concepts are lifted high in scripture. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

In Lexington, it is preached by those who keep farming and ranching because they believe it will rain and the land will blossom again.

As for endurance, Matthew 24:13 says that he who endures to the end will be saved.

That message is preached by all those who have been on the same land year after year, through good times and bad.

“Giving up” is simply not an option. Endurance is.

Undergirding all of this is a foundation of discipline, a daily continuing to do the right thing by the land, believing that those efforts will be rewarded.

Perhaps this is why an old rancher said, “I’d rather be in the field feeding cows and thinking about God than be in church thinking about feeding the cows.”
