Lexington to Tackle Crockett in Opener

by Mike Organ

Lexington will host the Crockett Bulldogs in the opening game, this Friday night. The Bulldogs are members of District 11 Class 2ADivision I. Crockett returns five offensive and five defensive starters from what many thought was an underachieving 11-2 area championship team. A late coaching change allowed the Bulldogs to move offensive coordinator Joe Kettler into the head coaching position.

Offensively, the Bulldogs to watch for are: receiver, Michael McKnight, Darrius Barber, Carlton Shirley, and newcomer A.J. Phillips. The Bulldogs also return offensive linemen Tevin Collins and Thomas Hickman. The coaching change should not hamper the offense, as the OC was promoted to the head job. Year in, year out the Bulldogs produce some outstanding athletes.

Defensively, linebacker Devin Chambers led the team in tackles in 2011 with 104 stops. The Bulldogs have good size on the line and possess a world of speed.

Game time is 7:30 for the two teams picked to win their respective districts in the regular season. It should be a battle royal between two fine teams.
