LCTS 4-H Riders Compete at State
Members of the Lee County Texas Stars 4-H horse club recently represented Lee County at the 50th State 4-H Horse Show in Abilene. The show was held from July 22 to July 28, and during the week, riders competed in events such as Drill and Precision Riding, Working Cow Horse, Barrels and other speed events, Team Penning, Roping, and Hunter Hack, just to name a few. There were over six hundred 4-H members competing at the show, and the competition is always top notch. The mounted drill team competed in the theme drill competition, with a theme based on the Broadway musical, “My Fair Lady” and took fifth place. In this competition, teams of riders perform a unique drill, consisting of intricate maneuvers, and have costumes and music to ride to, based on a theme; they are judged on many factors including difficulty of drill, horsemanship, and audience appeal. The Lee County Texas Stars drill team also competed in the Precision Riding competition and earned a bronze medal. In this competition, teams perform a predetermined pattern, that is the same for all the teams, and are judged on their performance and horsemanship ability. Other member placings include Haley Schneider, who took 9th place in Barrels, Amber Schulze, who placed 10th in the 3 year old futurity reining class, and the team of Zach Rother, Lane Turner, and Lindsey Knobloch, who took 14th place in team penning. Other riders from Lee County who competed at the show were, Jodie Taylor, Madison Pilkinton, Jaycie Taylor, Shannon Pilkinton, Megan Rother, Amber Smith, Patrick Hawkins, Justin Ender, Sonora Vogelsang, Cody Messer, and Colton Robertson. The LCTS will be hosting a playday series at their arena in Lexington this fall.
