Eagles Begin Football Practice
The Lexington Eagles took to the field Monday afternoon to begin their quest to prove they are one of the top teams in the state in Class 2A-Division II. The Eagles welcome back five offensive starters and seven defensive starters from an 11-3 semi-finalist team.
Quarterback Kogan Garrett is the top offensive starter, returning after passing for over 3,000 yards last season and rushing for 1,129 yards.
Receiver Jason Washington is the receiver to look for, considering the spectacular plays he had last year as he caught 62 passes for nearly 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Zach Lay is Mister Dependable, as he makes the routine catches with sure hands. Lay caught 17 passes that resulted in 4 TD’s. Lay caught two TD passes in the Refugio game when others were dropping balls.
Defensively the Eagles return seven starters led by all-state end Todd Glass. Glass recorded 147 tackles, with eight sacks last season.
All-District safety, Eriq Mitchell, leads the secondary, as well as being an offensive threat.
The Eagles will have two weeks before their first scrimmage against Caldwell, which is scheduled on the weekend of August 17th. The next week, the Eagles will travel to Marlin for a scrimmage against the usually talented Bulldogs.
