At The Library!” Lee County Sheriff Rodney Meyer (holding clue) and Deputy Michael York, enlightened the young eager Summer Reading 2012 readers with their skills and expertise used in solving cases...fitting in well with this year’s Summer Reading 2012 theme of “Get A Clue... At The Library!” The Giddings Public Library and Cultural Center, would like to thank everyone who participated and helped with the wonderful success of Summer Reading 2012! The Library registered 227 children for this year’s Summer Reading Program entitled “GET A CLUE…ATTHE LIBRARY!!!”.

This year, as last year, Giddings Public Library’s Summer Reading 2012 Program enjoyed the wonderful participation of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus, as they provided an additional reading level prize in the form of a circus pass for those Summer Reading 2012 registrars that reached that particular level. In conjunction with their participation, Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey provided a special Bonzo Crunch Clown Show presentation held in Giddings on June 7, 2012. Bonzo Crunch the Clown put on a great show for the crowd of about 140 “+” and also boosted our Summer Reading 2012 registration!

Children ages 3-6 years celebrated the end of Summer Reading Program on July 25 at Giddings’ Simmang Park.

With the weather’s cooperation and the City of Giddings’ kind generosity, the end of Summer Reading celebration for the 7-12 year olds was held at the Giddings City Pool on July 26th.

The children at both parties enjoyed hot dogs that had been generously donated by B&W Grocery of Giddings, with hot dog buns generously donated by Brookshire Bros., and fruit drinks, chips, cookies, and popsicles donated by the Giddings Public Library.

After the celebration activities were completed and all of the guests had eaten, award announcements were made for the Art Contests for ages 3-6 , and for ages 7-12, and also, for the ages 7-12 Writing Contest, on each of their given celebration “party”day. Awards were then presented to winners and Merit award recipients.

The turnout of children, along with their parents/guardians, the great support of our very faithful volunteers Jaquelinne Arteaga, Sandra Awad, Ellie Doerfler, Alexa Gon, Monica Muniz, Elijah Lewis, Victoria Davis, Micah Jackson, Patricia Jackson, and Megan Rangel, the wonderful contributed talents of our guest presenters, plus the tremendous support of various businesses within Giddings and Lee County has made a loud statement to Giddings Public Library that this Summer Reading program is to be a staple during our summer months.

We will do our best to continue to innovate with the Summer 2013 Reading program and all programs to follow. You, the town and the town’s children, please continue to attend, and bring more friends to register; we will do the rest!

Giddings Public Library Director Pamela Hutchinson, Trudy S. Doerfler- Children’s Librarian, and all of our library staff - Rosa Tovar, Betty Durkin, Marian Wiederhold, Judy Belyeu, and also including our special “summer staff” Gregory Haywood thank you all.
