Just a Thought.......
One of the curiousities of my mental ruminations is that I seem to be able to retain trivia long after items of significance disappear.
I often worry that all of those head baps of my childhood and youth disturbed my gray matter filing system. Little things and odd moments float in and out without rhyme or reason.
But sometimes, it is pleasant and even instructive.
Years ago, when I was leading some kind of group (Notice, I have forgotten just what it was.), I was passing out papers to the class. One of the members, Dr. Kenny, said “Thank you” when I handed him his sheet.
I recall thinking at the time, “You don’t need to thank me, I am just passing out class materials.”
But later I had a second thought. “He was very gracious for a very small thing.”
That inner reflection was followed by the Voice in my head. “Why not, David? Is there a ranking of gifts where only some are worthy of gratitude? Or, are none to be ignored, for all of them are grace?”
That moment, and its subsequent cranial conversation, moved the memory to “Priority” status. It is the reason Hallmark has sold me lots of cards. It is the motivation for my manners. And, it is why, today, I close with these words.
“Thank you, Lexington Leader, for allowing me to be on your pages. And, thank you, to all of you who read this column and for each of you who have shared kind words about it.
