Sports Thoughts

by Mike Organ

It is great to see two softball teams headed to the state tourney, especially the one advancing as the LEXINGTON EAGLES.

The Lee County Major boys team was loaded with Lexington players. The future looks good for Lexington in spring ball, male and female.

You got a show case of just how self-centered today’s athletes are. Justin Verlander chose to showcase his 100 MPH fastball instead of his usual pitching. The result cost the American League five runs in the first inning. His ego was more important than 30 other all-stars.

Professional sports have no loyalty to a specific team, just to the $$$$$$. Gone are the days when an organization could develop their own players and count on having them for the next 15 or 20 years. If a team is willing to pay millions, they can almost literally buy a championship.

You can follow this week’s 7 on 7 online if you cannot make it to College Station.
