National Champs Come Home To Lee County
The Texas Tornados competed in the National competition at the Rose Horse Park in Tyler, Texas, June 19-24. The Tornados entered 11 divisions and placed in 9. The team brought back two National titles (Adult colorguard, and the Challanged Riders), two reserve titles (Adult colorguard, and 8 man select team). The team carried fire torches, an old Lee County tradition. Two third place awards were received (Youth Intermediate and Adult Youth Mix Quad Theme.)· Fourth place was won in Rodeo Drill and the Fun Drill. The Tornados placed higher than any other Texas team in the Rodeo Division. The Fun Drill consisted of six maneuvers, added to three of the Tornados’ maneuvers, which the participants learned in one night without practicing on horseback. The team then performed the Fun Drill on Thursday evening. One fifth place was won on a youth quad drill. The Texas Tornados Team members consist of 17 youth riders under the age of 16, along with 5 young adults and 5 parents that ride and help.

Coach’s Comments: Highpoint of the week was when Johnny O’Bier was asked to carry the American Flag in the opening ceremony on day two. The TexasTornados will be riding at the Allen & Doyle Wiederhold Memorial Rodeo, July 27-28, 2012, at 7:30 p.m in Dime Box, Texas.
