Dear Editor

Dear Editor:

The American Legion Post 6 would like to thank everyone who came out to support our pancake breakfast on Saturday, July 7, 2012.

We have been doing this breakfast quarterly since 2006 – buying supplies from Peterson’s Grocery Store. With the previous owner, some supplies were donated. Others were provided to the Legion at cost plus 10%, which was greatly appreciated. We would charge supplies the Thursday and Friday prior to the pancake breakfast, and a running tab was kept in case supplies ran short Saturday morning. The account was paid in full on Monday.

Friday, July 6, I went to Peterson’s to get supplies. The young lady at the counter advised me that the owner had changed the charge amount to $0 and that the American Legion was no longer allowed to charge supplies. I thanked her and drove to Giddings to buy supplies.

We did not ask for anything free or at a discount, but do question why we are no longer allowed to charge.

This veteran will no longer do business with a store that will not stand behind our troops, our veterans, or our country.

Think about it: Do you really want to support a business that does not support the veterans? What is the real reason the charge account was cancelled? Think about it.

Bobby L. Rodgers, Sr.
