Just a Thought.......
One, is that I love to write about my Lexington discoveries. The other, more serious, is that I do not like to have someone speak to me in a foreign language and I believe that many of the words which believers speak now sound very strange to those outside our faith country.
Consider, for example, sin. Does anybody actually do that anymore, or, do we all just live a “lifestyle”, and if mine is different than yours, so be it.
Sin was once understood as going against the laws of God. But, in a nation which is now mostly secular, meaning we live and think in non-religous terms, those laws are not basic to our understanding of the way life should be.
If you doubt me, try this exercise. Take a copy of the Ten Commandments (remember those?) and have a discussion with a random group of people about which ones they still live by. Then, ask them if non-compliance makes one a “sinner”. Odds are you will get some other explanation for the breaking of these rules.
When you do, you will understand that we have moved the locus of authority from God to us . . . . . a dangerous move as the Good Book has always warned us. The results of this cultural shift are clear and it is not good.
There, that’s my sermon, or is it “just a thought”?
