Meals on Wheels Closes in Lexington

Kelly Franke with Combined Community Action reported that CCA, which provided hot noon meals to senior citizens over 60 years of age on Wednesdays at the Lexington Senior Citizen Center, will no longer come to Lexington. Franke said “while our attendance was very good to start, the last few weeks it has not been at a level that would allow us to continue.” “We need 10-15 people each week to justify the expense of coming to Lexington. The Giddings site will continue to provide meals 5 days a week”. They also provide “MEALS ON WHEELS” to those individuals who are homebound and are in need of a nutritious meal. The Nutrition program prepares and delivers an average of 600 meals a month in Lee and Fayette Counties. Over 20 volunteers assist with the program throughout the year. Unfortunately, the expenses of this program have far outpaced the donations received from local businesses and individuals, causing funds to be pulled from the total organization’s budget, to support Lee County’s nutrition program.

If your group or organization would like to participate in this campaign by sponsoring a Senior, contact Kelly Franke at 979-540- 2980 or KJFranke@CCAction.com Personal donations can be sent to Combined Community Action, 165 W. Austin Street, Giddings, 78942. Please include Meals on Wheels – Lee County in the memo line.
