Elgin Kidnapping

On July 5, 2012, at approximately 4:00 am, Bastrop Deputies responded to an address on Hwy 95 south of Elgin in reference to two missing children, ages 8 and 5. The children reside with their maternal great-grandmother, who has legal custody of them. Deputies were advised that the children were last seen at approximately midnight. At approximately 4:00 am, the greatgrandmother went to check on them and found them to be missing. Deputies believed that the biological mother, Valonda Nora, 29 years old, who had no parental rights, removed the children from the residence without the guardian’s consent.

Deputies were advised that the 8 year old had a medical condition which required medication, which was left at the residence. During the investigation, investigators were able to determine that the children might be located at a residence in the 5100 block of Blue Spruce Circle in Austin. The Austin Police Department was contacted to assist in trying to locate the children. When officers attempted contact with Ms. Nora, she barricaded herself in the residence and refused to cooperate. The Austin PD SWAT team was called to the scene. Two Felony Kidnapping warrants were subsequently issued for Ms. Nora.

At approximately 2:15 PM, officers made entry into the residence and took Ms. Nora into custody. The children were checked by EMS and returned safely to their great-grandmother.
