City Council Hires Danita Smith Interim Judge
The Lexington City Council met last week in special session and hired Danita Smith, Lee County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4, as interim City Municipal Judge to replace the retiring Nick Hester. Smith will act in the capacity of Municipal Judge until the November 2012 election when the voters will decide who will be Hester’s replacement as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3.
The council also considered several other items, including awarding a bid to clean the CCTV 6” and 10” sewer mains to Veolia Environmental Services, and hiring BEFCO Engineering to take over the engineering for collection system rehabilitation.
A motion was made by Council member Tim Brown to adopt the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance during the meeting, as well. Lee County Judge Paul Fischer, in conjunction with local cities and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, announced two meetings that will be held regarding Flood Damage Prevention. Those meetings will be held on Tuesday, July 10. In Lexington, the meeting will be from 7 until 8 p.m. at the Woodson Community Center. In Giddings, the meeting will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Giddings Library. Persons interested in learning more about flood insurance and the local flood plain are encouraged to attend.
