Martha Parsley

Services for Martha Parsley, 69 of Rockdale were held Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Phillips & Luckey Chapel. Burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Rita Sims officiated.

Her pallbearers were Daniel Koeneke, Corey Vorn Kahl, Brian Wallis, Dwayne David, Brian Ballard, and Steve Glaser. Honorary pallbearers were James Earley, R.C. Wiley, Bill Avrett, Miller Bassler, Alan Johnston, Frank Breazeale, Glen Breazeale, and Carroll Glaser.

Martha Parsley was born April 23, 1943 in Gilmer, the only daughter of four children born to William Wyatt and Katie O’Neal (Coppedge) Breazeale. Martha attended Kilgore Junior College and in 1962, she was crowned “Miss Ore City” at Lake of the Pines.

On February 9, 1963, she and Harold Lee Parsley, Jr. were married in Ore City, Texas. They came to Rockdale to purchase the Reel Drive In Theater (named by little Bill Cooke in a contest he won), where Martha was the “ticket taker”. They then purchased the Dixie Theater. They owned car washes in Rockdale, Caldwell, Taylor, Hearne and Rosebud. Harold taught school in Rockdale from 1973 to 1975 and then opened Parsley Pullet Parlor, (named by Peggy Cooke) in Rockdale, Bryan and Giddings. They opened Texas Fajita, where Miss Martha was there to visit and take your food order, and Chicken Express.

MoMo as she was affectionately called, had fought her Chronic Progressive Multiple Sclerosis for 31 years. MoMo loved being a mom and grandmother. She played tennis with partners, Peggy Cooke, Neva Caffey, Dana Caffey, Jerri Burnett, Annette Griesbach and Kathie Bassler. She informally taught many young people to swim in her pool at home.

Martha was an active member at St. John’s United Methodist Church and taught All-Star Sunday School Class. She was awarded Woman of the Year at St. John’s in 2010. She was a member of Rockdale Reading Club, Rockdale Tennis Association, Bridge Club and a volunteer with the MARC Center.

Martha passed away Monday evening, June 18th, at her home in Rockdale, reaching the age of 69. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jay Breazeale.

Survivors are her husband of 49 years, Harold Parsley, daughter, Kathryne Roddam & husband Ward, and son, Lee Parsley all of Rockdale; two brothers, Glen Breazeale of Ore City and Frank & Annette Breazeale of Gilmer, her six grandchildren, Katie Roddam & fiancee Daniel Koeneke, Kassie Roddam, Kourtney Kay Roddam, Jake Parsley, Jaycee Parsley, and Luke Parsley.
