Sports Thoughts……

by Mike Organ

It seems as though the referees are having a big part in the outcome of the NBA championship series.

Stony Brook University’s Cinderella run at the college world series is over. I think everyone in the nation not affiliated with one of the other seven teams was pulling for the Seawolves.

The Big XII did not get a team to Omaha but the SEC got three teams. The Aggies may be in for a rude awakening in sports other than football.

The Longhorns are already talking about being a top twenty team this fall. They have been highly over rated the last two years. It looks like they would keep their mouths shut and just try to earn the ranking with their play instead of talking themselves into a ranking they might not be able to fulfill.

Coach Craig Finley is leaving Lexington for a coaching position at Midland Greenwood High School. Greenwood is a wealthy 3A district just outside Midland. Coach Jason Holcomb said he is actively pursuing a quality replacement for Finley.

In an interview Holcomb said, “We are taking an applicant to the board Monday night in hopes of filling the position. The applicant came with good references and had a great interview.”

The Eagle baseballers are playing this summer, along with basketball and 7-on-7 football. The athletes are working out in the weight room and running to keep in shape.

The Little League playoffs begin Monday the 25th. I hope all the District 13 teams make it to the World Series. They are good enough in the eyes of local coaches.
